 Happy Aloha Friday!

Well Before Kurt Cobain and Neil Young uttered the sentiment, it was Jack London who said, “I would rather be ashes than dust! I would rather that my spark should burn out in a brilliant blaze than it should be stifled by dry-rot.” He went on to say, “I would rather be a superb meteor, every atom of me in magnificent glow, than a sleepy and permanent planet. The proper function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days trying to prolong them. I shall use my time.” Though he only lived to be 40, Jack London lived multiple lives and certainly did not fade away. From oyster pirate at the age of 15, to tramp riding the rails with Coxey’s Army, and a myriad of jobs in between (seal hunter, canner, and a stint at a street-railway power plant), London eventually joined in the Klondike Gold Rush in 1897. Through his time prospecting, London, like many, became malnourished in the gold fields and eventually developed scurvy. The physical toll it took on him also inspired much of his future writing. It was during this time that he was inspired to write "To Build a Fire." Here are some jack London Fun Facts to chew on.

93 years later, Led Zeppelin dropped the first of eight studio albums: Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin I (1969) (Full Album)  Produced by Glyn Johns, the album was self-funded by Jimmy Page, the group's founder, leader and guitarist, and Led Zeppelin's manager Peter Grant prior to the band having a record deal. Nearly every song from that album is now on regular rotation on every classic rock stations across the globe.   Happy Aloha Friday! ( BLOG LINK ) There is a Japanese proverb that says, “A wise-man climbs Mt. Happy Aloha Friday the 13 th ! ( Blog Link ) It is, sadly, another somber Friday, with such chaos and atrocity playing out in the world. To say the situation in Israel is complicated would be an understatement. This article tries to simplify it, but I don’t think such a complicated situation can ever be simplified. While I don’t want to dwell on it, I think Wendell berry does a good job of capturing a lot of what I have been feeling as of late: "When despair for the world grows in me and I wake in the night at the least sound in fear of what my life and my children's lives may be, I go and lie down where the wood drake rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds I come into the peace of wild things who do not tax their lives with forethought of grief. Happy Aloha Friday! ( Blog Link ) They say, it is all about perception. Glass half full versus empty, beautiful day versus miserable. Did you ever think that the way you think informs much about how you feel and who you are as a person. Well, what is common knowledge, as they say, is not always common practice. Harnessing the Power of Positive Positivity is similar to cultivating a toned or muscular body. Like daily trips to the gym, running, cycling, yoga, in order to achieve a positive mental mindset, you must train your mind to think positively and therefore see the positive. Words you use, thoughts you have, all contribute to how you perceive the world. As an exercise to this, in my household, recently, we eradicated the word “chore” from our vocabulary. We now refer to the daily tasks that need to be accomplished as “Get-To’s.” It’s these little changes, like the “Get-To’s” done around the house that keep it neat and clean, that built up over time, help us rewire our brai
